Athletics

At Swords ETNS, we have an all-inclusive approach to athletics.

During the year, we participate in the Fingal Athletics League, which comprises a mix of cross country and track races held over three separate meets held in Spring each year.

Children race in distances from 300m up to 600m, and all represent their school with great pride. Our team selection is based on inclusion and on getting as many children as possible to have a positive experience with athletics and with challenging themselves physically and mentally.

This year, we had almost 150 children in total running from SETNS, many of them for the first time in a competitive setting. They learned about warm-ups, responsible pacing, positive sportspersonship and the importance of being part of a team or a group of friends and representing your school or club.
While we had a few wonderful winners and many speedsters earning podium positions, every child who stepped out in the Swords colours and represented their school should be immensely proud of themselves for representing their school with pride. We will no doubt see these young athletes grow into social runners, walkers, sprinters, marathoners, and maybe even a couple of olympians! The sky is really the limit with these children.

Aside from transport costs, every one of the above events were provided to schools absolutely free of charge, thanks to Fingal Athletics League. Without them, none of this would have happened, and the several thousand children competing this year wouldn't have had their shot. Thank You Fingal Sports Office!
