Swords Educate Together N.S. is one of a growing number of Educate Together national schools in Ireland. All national schools operate under the 1998 Education Act, which recognizes the Patron as manager of the school. The Patron of our school is Educate Together, the umbrella organization for all Educate Together national schools. The main task of the Patron is to ensure that the ethos and characteristic spirit of the school is maintained. Educate Together represents our school in negotiations with the Department of Education and Science and other national organizations. Educate Together is funded, in the main, by fundraising. Educate Together schools are:
Established and developed by parents
Multi-denominational
We:
- Recognize all ethical and religious traditions.
- Deal with issues of ethics and morality.
- Facilitate any group of parents to organize religious instruction for their children outside school hours.
- Have an Educate Together Programme (ETP), which teaches children core values necessary to inform a child’s developing mind to live in our rapidly changing society. A premium is placed on appreciation and respect for social, cultural and other human difference, health and safety, individual/social responsibilities and rights.
Child-centred. Our school teaches the Revised Primary School Curriculum for all Primary schools. Genuine dialogue and partnership between teachers and parents greatly enhances the teaching/learning process. The child is the focus of all school activity and decision-making.
Co-educational. Our school is for boys and girls. Gender stereotyping and inequality are proactively addressed across the curriculum and in all school activities.
Democratically run. Parents have enhanced access and involvement in the running and development of the school in a very real sense. This unique level of parental involvement can only develop properly if it fully recognizes and respects the professional role of the teacher and builds genuine partnership between the professional and the parent to provide the maximum educational benefit for the child.
Recognized by the Department of Education and Science.
Non-fee paying.
