H1N1/ Swine Flu Virus

I wish to reassure the school community that we will employ best practice and follow HSE advise in relation to the management of the H1N1/Swine Flu Virus. For your information, the following communication was issued to all school staff this week:

To all Staff re: H1N1 (Swine Flu) Prevention. All Staff members are expected to make every effort to implement best practice in relation to Swine Flu prevention. Drill the motto ‘Catch it, Bin it, Kill it’ at regular intervals. Check that every child takes tissues to school daily. Keep a box of tissues in your room at all times. Tissues should be used once and binned. Ensure that your toilet area has bacterial soap at all times. Please check the following websites:

  1. www.swineflu.ie: Schools can download useful posters and general information in various languages from this website.

  2. www.hpsc.ie: Provides posters and documentation for educational settings

  3. www.dohc.ie: Provides daily updates on the pandemic

I think it’s important that we maintain perspective re the pandemic, while at the same time prioritizing the health of the school community and our own health.

We need full Parent/Guardian cooperation in relation to the above over the coming weeks and months. Please practice the above motto with you child/ren and remind them regularly that they must ‘Catch it, Bin it, Kill it’ at all times. Children must take a supply of tissues to school with them every day. Please impress upon your child/ren to sneeze into their elbow when caught off guard or inadvertently without a tissue. Children with flu-like symptoms should stay out of school until such time as swine flu has been ruled out. Please support us by impressing upon your child/children the importance of washing their hands regularly and ALWAYS after using the toilet.

 Some Very Good News

Following a meeting the Department in July, a planning application for our Permanent building was submitted by the Department to Fingal County Council in early August. Following the planning process, the Department expect construction to commence in October and to finish before June of next year. The site has already been cleared of the burnt-out old Gaelscoil building.  This is very positive news to commence the new school year with. I just know it will lift everyone’s heart and spirits. It certainly does ours! So, an eventful and very busy year ahead for all of us: Staff, Board, PTA and Parent body. We will need a lot of help with the BIG MOVE when the time comes. The board will keep you updated re developments.

 Sincerely,

Gerard, Príomhoide
