Dear Parents/Guardians,

What a fantastic fortnight this has been in SETNS with the Official Opening of our New School Building,Down Syndrome Ireland’s Funday Ice Cream Day,Sports Day and the 6th Class Graduation Ceremony just yesterday!

Official Opening of New School Building

The New School Building was officially opened by Minister Ruairí Quinn TD and was attended by invited guests. Master of Ceremonies for the event was Elaine Bermingham Chairperson Board of Management and speakers included Greg Mac Hale PTA Chair,Tesleem and Kate Student Council,Gerard Kelly Former Principal and Paul Rowe Educate Together. Pupils presented their class level performances and wowed the guests with their imaginative interpretations of the theme Building for the Future.  The staff of SETNS gave of their time and energy to ensure that the children were well prepared and that the school was presented at its very best…a special word of thanks to Áine for leading preparations of the whole school display areas.

The choir conducted by Bronagh sang beautifully and the Student Council held a guard of honour for Mayor of Fingal County Council and Ministerial guests. The Student Council Newsletter was sent home to all families to mark this special event. The PTA organised catering for large numbers of guests and for this I would like to thank them most sincerely.

The sun shone ever so brightly over SETNS on our special day and on into the evening for our Open Evening which was attended by you in tremendous numbers. All in all the day was a wonderful celebration for the whole school community. A sincere thank you from all in SETNS.

Check out the Fingal Independent for article and photographs of the event. Our celebration cake icon on the homepage of our website www.swordseducatetogether.ie will lead you to a photostory of the day.

Graduation Ceremony

Thank you to 6th class teachers Bronagh and Eibh and SNA’s Marie and  Áine and SEN teachers Alice,Jane and Paul for ensuring that this year was enriching and enjoyable for our 6th class pupils. The pupils held themselves to high account by planning and conducting the ceremony themselves. A lovely warm atmosphere was evident as boys and girls were presented with their SETNS Graduation Certs by Elaine,Chairperson of the BOM. Thank you to Gerard and Mary for attending this special day for the Class of 2012.We wish the graduates well in their new schools and we look forward to hearing of their continued successes.

Very Best Wishes to Emma

It is with regret that we in SETNS say goodbye to Emma Masterson SNA. Emma has worked in SETNS since September 2010 and has been a valued and fond member of staff for all of that time. Emma’s artistic abilities were particularly evident in her creative and imaginative displays outside the Senior Infant classroom where she worked this year. All of this belied the fact that Emma is a highly competent and caring SNA who will be missed by the pupils, staff and parents of SETNS. We wish Emma every success in the future…there will always be a welcome for you in SETNS,Emma!

Book Rental and Booklists

As outlined in previous Newsletters you will be aware of the introduction of the Book Rental Scheme in SETNS. Thank you to the Committee involved in organising the scheme which for this year brings financial benefits in the purchase of Irish books. The scheme will be extended next year to include additional subject areas. We also included Brennan Insurance on the booklist for the school year 2012-2013. The PTA will continue to run this scheme from September.

A Word of Thanks

As the school year draws to a close I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for the support I have received from staff, pupils,BOM,PTA and parents in this my first year as principal in SETNS. It has been a privilege getting to know your children and we have had a most memorable year. I hope you and your families enjoy the summer break and hopefully we will see plenty of sunshine before returning in August/September for another exciting year in SETNS.

Please could parents/guardians whose children will not be returning to SETNS in September 2012 formally contact the school either in writing/phone/email before 12.30p.m tomorrow. This has an effect on our numbers for September and I would ask you to ensure the school is aware of this. To all the boys and girls who are leaving this year,we wish you well and I would reiterate what was said to 6th Class at their graduation, there will always be an SETNS welcome for you anytime you wish to return.
